Boy aged 9-10 years

Julie has been a very important part of my son’s journey in understanding himself.

He has always had issues with toileting and we looked for play therapy initially to help him deal with the psychological effect this was having. He felt out of control, cross and isolated and struggled with the emotions he was feeling.

As a creative and imaginative child, he took to play therapy very easily, working through some of his underlying feelings as sessions progressed. Part way through, he was able to talk at home about some of the feelings and issues he has carried with him from past events, and to voice his insecurities and sadness so that we could explore them and reassure him, and help to change his perspective.

Julie communicated with me throughout his time, finding that many of the things that were happening at home, both negative or positive, were being reflected in his play during sessions. She fed back to me her interpretations of the processes he was working through, whilst retaining the confidentiality of what was happening during these.

Now we are at the end of our play therapy, not only is he more confident in dealing with his toilet issues and this area of his life, but he has become happier and more settled at school too. His friendships have deepened and he has begun to be much more comfortable and confident in finding his place amongst his friends, and in his self belief socially.

Julie’s ability to help him to explore himself and find his peace has had such a positive impact. He has loved his time with Julie and is a much happier child because of it.
